Shame plays an important role in establishing connection, belonging and trust, which may seem counter-intuitive at first. This workshop looks at some underlying emotional and social dynamics of shame and how this emotion can nurture stronger bonds with the people around us and also foster a stronger sense of self-acceptance and self-love.

Jan Großer (*1963), psychiatrist and psychotherapist with experience in sex therapy and substance misuse. Five years of voluntary work in psychological counselling at Schwulenberatung Berlin. My aim is to promote physical and mental health through psychoeducation, real-life intervention techniques and conflict resolution strategies in dealing with illness, sexuality, substance use, shame and experiences of stigmatisation.
