The Paradox of Porn with Don Shewey
Pornography has played a special role in gay men’s sex lives. It has taught us what desire between two men looks like. It’s also shaped and often distorted our ideas about what sex is and what normal bodies look like. Don Shewey will present some key ideas from his book The Paradox of Porn and facilitate a group exploration of what’s valuable and what’s problematic about this alluring form of entertainment.
Don Shewey is a writer and pleasure activist in New York City. He is a California state-certified masseur as well as a New York state-licensed psychotherapist whose private practice specializes in sex and intimacy coaching. His work as a teacher and community health activist revolves around healing through pleasure, adult sex education, and grounded daily spiritual practice. He has published four books including The Paradox of Porn: Notes on Gay Male Sexual Culture.
